Hey, you!

Do you enjoy sharing ideas with people who have similar interests, such as games, TV shows, technology, collecting, card games, RPGs, and more?
Would you like a well-organized platform to publish your thoughts and showcase your writing skills without the hassle of managing a website, domain, or web hosting?
If so, join our team!
We are seeking contributors to write about games and related topics.
How much do we pay?
ZERO, NADA, NONE.
I'm sorry, but I can't pay you for writing here.
"But there are ads here! Pay the writers, you damn greedy jerks!"
It doesn't pay 10% of what I spend on server, domain, plugins, my time... I wish these ads could earn enough to hire writers and make a living from this project. It's a dream — or a goal? — for the future.
So, if you send any content, it's pre-agreed that it's a voluntary contribution.
So, why on Earth would I do that?
- Exhibition: name and personal link in all articles you publish (except Games and Biography), as well as on Team page and personal profile page.
- Portfolio: publish some great articles and show that you know what you're talking about. We have a good position on searches; it's an online portfolio for your work. Who knows, maybe you'll reach bigger heights from here?
- Fame, the endless fame that MB will give to you ✨
Requirements
What?! It's volunteer work, and there are requirements?! Are y ou crazy? Yes, we do. Yes, I am.
This way, we'll maintain an excellent level for the reader, right?
Required
Enough writing skilss
Above the basics. You don't need to be a Professor or produce formal, rigid works. But if your English is really, really bad, like... bad, nevermind. We wouldn't have time to edit everything you send, no matter how much we wanted to. We aim for simple, informal, accessible language, if possible.
Edit 2024: with AI tools, things have become much easier, but don't just rely on ChatGPT, Gemini, or whatever to produce your articles. It's okay to use them to improve your text, but you'll still need to create the structure, so you don't end up with those bizarre, nonsensical yadayadas that come out if you leave everything up to them. Reading and fact-checking is very important, and you can't count on AI for that.
If it doesn't work for you, no issues. You can still participate with comments or by sending us publishing tips.
Know your stuff
There is no point in writing if you have no idea what you are talking about, or just repeating what someone else said all the time. Even if you are translating news, it is best to know the subject.
Most important: never plagiarize content (quote or translate without pointing the source). That's evil.
Desirable
Text formatting
Do you know how to use Word, apply bold, italics? The WordPress editor is almost the same, so you shouldn't have any trouble formatting your article. If you don't know, it's fine: I'll adjust it before publishing.
Image editing
Your articles will be more interesting if they have images.
No one can stand long blocks of text without interruption, the infamous "brick". When inserting images in your post, it is important to optimize them; instead of a huge image of 5000 x 3500 pixels wide JPG, resize it enough to look good and don't eat all of your reader's bandwidth and memory.
Pixel art game screenshots will be much smaller if saved in PNG format, and resized using the nearest neighbor method. Newer games, with textures and gradients, look better in WEBP (and the file is smaller, too).
In short
- Required:
- Good writing.
- Know and like games enough to not write nonsense.
- Don't rely only on AI to make your articles.
- Recommended:
- Know how to format your articles.
- Know how to optimize images, publish and organize galleries.
- If you know about tags and SEO (for better title choices and writing), even better.
Allowed content
News: About games, duh...
Reviews: Current and retro games, any generation. Check our pages about reviews and how to write game reviews.
Articles: Want to talk about the old days, tell stories, discuss or talk about games without reviewing them? Create a post. Other themes around the interest of those who enjoy games are also okay, like TV shows, movies, card games, table games, and much more.
Games: If you have a bit of a historian side, help catalog games. These pages contain descriptions, tips, characters, artwork, images – title screen and levels – and information such as director, manufacturer, soundtrack author, etc. The average score, automatically generated from MB and readers' reviews, is also displayed. To get an idea, browse the Games section.
Biographies: Similar to game pages, but for real and fictional characters. There are engineers, designers and executives, as well as guys like Sonic and Mario. Like the previous one, it is not a space for personal opinions, but rather for history.
Content rejected
Piracy and copyright infringement: We do not support piracy, including the direct or indirect downloading of ROMs, ISOs, BIOS, etc. While the topic can be discussed, please refrain from including links or endorsing piracy.
Random topics: Readers are generally not interested in political and social issues, Bitcoin prices, celebrity gossip, etc. While these topics might be relevant elsewhere, they are not suitable for this platform.
Very short posts: Articles should develop ideas in depth. If your post is very short, such as a note or two paragraphs, please expand on it. For short news stories, consider adding more relevant information.
Reviews that do not evaluate: Reviews should focus on evaluating games. If you prefer to describe games without providing an opinion, create a post in the Games category. If the article already exists, you can update it with additional relevant details.
Game articles working as reviews: Conversely, if you are writing game registers, focus solely on data and history without including personal opinions.
Using posts for disguised advertising: Articles should not be used for company promotion, personal marketing, or blatant link building. Paid posts are acceptable but will be marked with a sponsored tag to indicate their nature.
Frequency of participation
Writing for Memória BIT should not be seen as an obligation; it would not make sense to impose a "working day" on volunteer work. You will decide how often you want to post, as long as you are not a supermachine (don't send 20 posts a day!) and keep the focus on a quality level.
How are posts approved?
Each article undergoes a pre-evaluation process and will be edited if deemed necessary; this is non-negotiable.
If your article meets our guidelines, it will be published as is, with minor corrections occasionally made to address any small errors.
In some cases, if the article is particularly compelling, we might publish it even if it contains significant errors, though this is neither guaranteed nor common, and rejection is more likely.
If your article is rejected, please revisit it in the editor. You’ll find an evaluation box on the right side of the screen, which will provide details on the rejection reasons and suggestions for improvement.
