Nintendo GameCube is a video game console produced and released by Nintendo on August 24, 2001. Part of the sixth generation of consoles, it was the company's first to use digital media, with its own DVD format called simply "Game Disc".
It had important games such as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine and Metroid Prime, but faced with fierce competition from PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It came in third in the commercial dispute, being succeeded by Wii in 2006 and discontinued the following year.
